AUGUST 2009
Fresh from recent acoustic triumphs following appearances at The Middlewich Folk Festival and the trip to Austria as well as completing several months of live rock n blues shows its time for a pee wee break. In keeping with tradition the chaps are set to take a break during August for family hols and to recharge batteries.
Autumn Gig Schedule
A number of electric and acoustic shows are already booked for the Autumn and can be checked out together with links on the main gig guide as well as the bands myspace websites. Cold Flame return to live action on the August Bank Holiday weekend when they perform at the Rock at The Lock Festival in Derbyshire and Colne Internatonal Blues Festival in Lancashire.Further dates are currently being considered and when confirmed will also appear on the band gig guides.
Live in Europe
Once more the band travelled to Austria recently performing both indoor and outdoor acoustic shows.Again the reaction to these shows from our European cousins confirmed the view that Flame concerts overseas are a prority in future planning - should the right opportunities present themselves. There are some tentative plans for further raids in Europe over the next few months which will be advertised should they become firm bookings. If ever there was a hint to promoters from across the seas, this is it.
Merchandise
With more than a passing nod to recent financial trends worldwide, the chaps have decided to lower the price of all Flame merchandise with immediate effect.Check out the latest prices and products on the website Shop.
Recording plans
The band will resume work on both acoustic and electric material for the second half of 2009 with a view to releasing at least one new studio album as soon as possible.Work will be undertaken both at The Shed Studios in Romiley and Shipwreck Studios in Glossop.
Website Maintainence
The importance of maintaining all three Flame websites is an essential part of Cold Flame.A suitable time therefore to highlight the important work being done on a regular basis by band crew members and Vision Internet in ensuring that things remain ship shape through the year.Well done chaps.
And finally Cold Flame would like to wish everyone a very happy fun filled summer break.Looking forward to once more meeting up very soon. All band enquiries please email info@cold-flame.co.uk
Be seeing you...Cold Flame.
JUNE 2009
Welcome friends, fans and the merely curious to a very belated first news page
for 2009 and its almost half over.Too many things outside of music have
contributed to the lateness of this update but now that we have your attention
please read on...
COLDFLAME.COM
With the group undergoing both change and consolidation during recent months,it
was decided to revamp the look and feel of all the Flame websites. There have
been some subtle changes made to both the acoustic and electric myspace sites
which are already up for all to see. Unexpected delays in updating the dot com
site this year however has revised thinking so whilst the look of the site will
remain similar, the band are now working with Vision Internet our webmasters to
quickly update pages. The main gig guide has now fully been brought up to date
for the rest of 2009 -expect new updates as further dates are confirmed for
this year.
LINE UP CHANGES
After enjoying a degree of stability in Cold Flame's line up during the last
few years there has a major change for 2009 with the news that Davyd Simpson
our popular flambuoyant keyboard player has now officially left the band. The
decision was quite amicable and made at the end of last year and reflects
Davyd's need to spend more time with his family.Additionally, the even more flambuoyant
Peter of the voice, flute and one legged stance has elected to take time out of
Flame duties to concentrate on both day job and other musical committments. We
wish both Davyd and Peter well but this change has meant that Jethro Tull
tribute shows are currently on hold. The band are currently networking with
flute players worldwide as there is both a committment and enthusiasm in
continuing to perform Tull music as a tribute show.Should there be any
musicians out there who fancy taking on an Ian Anderson style role then please
do get in touch. For futher details please
read the blog at myspace.com/coldflameuk and do email the band.
In the meantime the chaps comprising Pat, Rob, Phil, Paul, Keith and DC
have recruited professional pianist Tim Mottershead. Tim has in fact just
successfully completed his Flame debut in Sheffield as part of the four day
Sheffield Music Festival at Lodge Moor. For a full biog on Tim please check the
relevant blog at www.myspace.com/coldflameuk
We look forward to Tim's developing input in the band over the next few years.
GIGS/FESTIVALS 2009
Consolidating the band's position as one of the premier live rock and blues
acts in the north of England and certainly not undaunted by line up upheavels
nor the current economic climate, it has been very much business as usual with
the chaps continuing to play their eclectic mix of hard rock, blues, celtic and
acoustic folk rock music throughout the north of England and the Midlands. Both
new and completely revamped material has found its way into recent setlists
thanks to busy and productive rehearsals at HQ. New indoor and outdoor dates
for the year are continuing to come in and are being updated regularly on all
three group websites. Highlights include Middlewich Folk Festival in mid June,
Austria in early July and The Colne Blues Festival and Rock at the Lock
Festival,Long Eaton in late August. The two day Cambridge Folk Festival to be
held in September featuring Cold Flame and Solstice as headliners has however
been postponed due to the current
economic downturn as has a trip to the USA to perform a couple of
festival dates on the east coast. Currently there are no Jethro Tull tribute
dates as such though both acoustic and electric Tull music is still being
performed by the band in current live performances. Please check the gig guide
for all updates.
New recordings
It has been a couple of years since Cold Flame released any new original studio
material.Plans don't always work out the way they should.Work at Shipwreck
Studios in Glossop actually started back in Nov 2008 but unexpectedly some of
the key recording equipment stopped working and had to be shipped across to the
States for repair.Incredible as it may seem,Shipwreck are still waiting for
this equipment to be shipped back repaired. So despite having several new
backing tracks done including an epic nine minute heavy rock number, current
full band recording plans are on hold.Fear not however as the chaps have been
recording new acoustic tracks at The Shed Studios in Stockport with engineer
and owner John Slater which suggests that an acoustic album will be in the
shops before the end of the year. By way of further recompense guitarist Rob
has just brought out a solo album of sorts - studio material that he has
written and recorded with a nos of musicians from
around the Glossop area over the last few years. The album entitled 'In
Arms of the September Sun' includes a couple of songs being featured live by
the band in their current sets.See the Cold Flame band shop for further
details.
Merchandise
The Flame background staff have been extremely busy recently and there are a
nos of band items that will be or have already appeared on the Cold Flame shop
in addition to all Cold Flame live and studio albums. These include band
posters, postcards and badges.Any further info please email info@cold-flame.co.uk
Be seeing you...
