RHYTHM AND GREENS - Raising money for worthy causes the Cold Flame way .
Cold Flame are very proud of their record in helping to raise money for worthy causes .Over the years this has been particularly focused on local , regional and health issues and the band feels very proud in having helped to raise several thousands of pounds which has benefited the local community in various ways . Approximately six years ago Cold Flame decided to format this support by highlighting a particular worthy cause and organising fund raising themselves giving such events a title in order to maximise the publicity and interest and thereby increase the fund raising potential .The title we chose for this concept was Rhythm and Greens .
RHYTHM AND GREENS 2004
This year's event takes place on Wednesday June 30 and Thursday July 1 . St Philip Howard Secondary School in Glossop are bidding to receive Sports College status but in order to achieve this worthy aim need to raise rather a large sum of money .Enter Cold Flame . Result.....the latest Rhythm and Greens local community fund raiser .The overall purpose therefore is to raise funds and awareness within the local community in support of the bid being made by St. Philip Howard School for Sports College status through the production of a music CD featuring the members of Cold Flame and pupils from S.P.H. and the presentation of two evening concerts to be held in St Philip Howard School featuring students from the School as well as students from the four Catholic feeder primary schools in the Glossop area .
THE NEW COLD FLAME CD
The band have spent the last few weeks recording brand new versions of several previously released original tunes with support from a number of S.P.H..students . This has been achieved using the Shipwreck Studios mobile recording system as well as the main music studios based in Glossop and has been engineered by resident maestro Paul Walster . In addition to the four songs recorded in this way the CD will feature a brand new Cold Flame instrumental called 'The Huntsman's Daughter' featuring some superb whistle playing by frontman Ben as well as a cover tune 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' performed entirely by students from the school . Artwork for the album cover has been designed by Yr 11 student Richard Wilson with support from Head of Art Sandra Jacques .CD duplication has been handled by local Hadfield firm Express Media .

As part of Cold Flame's gigging
schedule at the start of 2002 ,the band headlined a major showcase event in
Glossop .Entitled "Rhythm and Greens 2002" the event was organised as a benefit concert to raise money for a local Glossop primary school
- All Saints - who had set up a building fund to
raise the money needed to build a much needed school hall which
is something the successful school has never had.
Supporting Cold Flame which featured the new band line up of Patrick ,Simon ,
Dave and Peter-- as special guests, were a band guaranteed
to make the night go down a storm. Local Irish superstars The
Curragh Sons fresh from touring in Ireland, the Lake District and
tv. appearances. Several guest musicians, celebrities and a late bar for the thirsty.-All
in all a top night of quality music with all proceeds going to a worthy
cause...Special mention to Andrew Perry singer/guitarist who played 'Skating
Away on the thin ice of a new day' in his 20 minute slot .
The gig took place on SATURDAY FEB.2nd at the VICTORIA HALL, Fauvel
Rd...Glossop's biggest indoor venue -very fitting given the demand for tickets
as it turned out . A truly fantastic evening of musical
mayhem was had by all even if the bar, organised by Glossop
Leisure Centre managed to run out of almost everything liquid by
10.00pm causing chaos in the local off licence. For the record
just over 400 people turned up to pack the venue and support both the band and
the fundraiser helping to contribute the
incredible sum of £2038 which will go a long way in helping All
Saint's Primary school realise a forty year dream. Our heartfelt
thanks go out to the people of Glossop for their wonderful
support, enthusiasm and generosity for what was a really worthy
cause.Great stuff. 1

Over the years Cold Flame have actively supported and promoted both local and national charity groups and events through numerous free live performances.
It is well known that Christies Hospital in Manchester is the leading centre of excellence for the treatment of cancers in Europe and perhaps the world. The adult leukaemia unit is a small seperately funded unit built onto the side of the main hospital.
'Daniel's Light' was set up by 1995 to raise money specifically for this unit by Joyce and John Shacklock from Furness Vale after their nineteen year old son Daniel had been diagnosed as suffering from Leukaemia the previous year which had meant Daniel becoming a patient at the A.L.U. Sadly, Daniel passed away within months but Joyce and John determined through 'Daniel's Light' to provide charitable financial support to help pay for specific items of equipment vital to the A.L.U.
An example of the work undertaken for the High Peak charity was to raise the funding to provide for an accommodation suite where close family members can be in close proximity, overnight, to the paitent during the initial stages of induction and treatment. The overall cost of the suite was approx. £60,000 which was successfully raised through ongoing monthly events such as canal boat trips, sponsored bike rides, bingo nights, musical events, fashion shows, car boot sales, parachute jumps, quiz nights etc etc this target was realised in December 2000.
In December 1999, Cold Flame were honoured to take part along with several other local acts in a celebration of contemporary rock and blues music at Chalkers Snooker Club in New Mills. This event was an outstanding success. Tickets sold out in advance, - everyone had a good time and nearly £1000 was raised for Daniel's Light.
Daniel's Light continues to raise money for the adult leukaemia unit and critical care campaign with the grand total now standing at over £130,000 .....Daniel is no longer with us but in this wonderful initiative, his memory lives on and benefits other leukaemia sufferers today.
