Cold Flame HQ.....May 2023

News - January 2023

Another year dawns and within band circles, a time for reflection, family connection and time out in planning new opportunities both on and off stage. As we all know, the last three years have brought ever increasing challenges, not least within music and the arts but it does not pay to dwell on such difficulties. Instead, let us hope that 2023 brings a more consistent smile back to one and all and the band hope to see you somewhere down the road during the course of the next few months. So without further ado, here is the news...

The official Cold Flame website
The Cold Flame official website was created around twenty years ago as the main way in which to keep friends, fans and the mildly curious aware of the group's activities and also act as a reference point for promoters, agents, venues and club owners. Over the years, information on the website has been updated and refined to ensure that such information remains relevant and user friendly. For the last five years, an annual review of the site in December has been undertaken at HQ to ensure this very purpose is maintained. Whilst Cold Flame info can be accessed via various social media platforms such as Facebook, the band remains committed to maintaining coldflame.com recognising that not everyone has an interest in, or is involved with, personal social media sites. As in previous years, an 'annual review' of the band website has just been completed for all pages which guarantees alterations and updates stay relevant over the next twelve months. The band are indebted to webmaster Dave Forward and his team at Vision Internet Ltd based in Cheshire for their continuing support and enthusiasm in ensuring all the pages, links and other stuff remain in full working order.

Cold Flame live - 2023
The band have always enjoyed live performance and that appetite to perform live has definitely not dwindled during the last three difficult years. Over the next few months, the band will once again present audiences with both electric and acoustic shows highlighting Cold Flame original and traditional blues and folk rock music alongside some crowd pleasing rock and folk cover favourites. These concerts will take place both in the UK and in Europe and will feature the band line up as it has been for many years. However, we are pleased to announce another musician will be guesting with the band in the UK on some occasional gigs in 2023. Welcome experienced tenor saxophonist Guy Smith whose photo has been added to the Gallery page on this website which also features all the musicians involved within the Cold Flame extended family. For those of you partial to the more progressive rock genre, Cold Flame will also present some specialised shows performing the music of Jethro Tull. This year there is a plan to play two separate tribute concerts. The most recent Tull shows have featured many of the songs from the Aqualung album alongside other Tull classics. This programme will be extended throughout 2023. However a second theme is planned for Autumn 2023 when Cold Flame will focus on the 55th anniversary of the first ever Jethro Tull studio album 'This Was' which was released back in 1968. All confirmed Cold Flame shows will be posted on the website as well as the band's official Facebook site https://www.facebook.com/coldflameuk and other regional and national platforms. To ensure information for venues and promotors on the band is up to date, the three press releases found on the About page of this website have just been updated.

The message to everyone who might be interested in booking the band for a private or public performance is clear - the Band Diary is now open for the whole of 2023 and 2024. Cold Flame welcome all enquiries for both electric, acoustic and tribute shows. Contact the band direct @ info@cold-flame.co.uk or patflame@yahoo.co.uk Alternatively the band can be contacted via the band's Facebook page.

Cold Flame video channel
It is true enough that live footage of a band is a useful way to further promote band activities. Whilst in the past this might not have been that easy to organise due to the need for specialist equipment, film crew and finance, advances in mobile phone technology over the last decade has made things so much easier. Audiences are now able to capture live images at will in all kinds of venues sometimes even when permission has not been granted. The Cold Flame YouTube channel was set up in 2011 and some videos were posted on the page at that time. Several additional videos were placed in an adjoining section. There was always an intention to add suitable live film to the Channel but over the next twelve months, almost all the footage received at HQ suffered from grainy images, distorted sound and focus issues. As time went on and nothing new was added, it is fair to say that this link gathered dust and was eventually forgotten about. Fast forward to 2022, there has been a recent realisation that the video channel needed a major revamp. Behind the scenes during the last few weeks, work has been undertaken to revamp the page. The band are indebted to video specialist Ian Gallagher for his time, advice and input. As of January 2023, the Cold Flame You Tube Channel will receive the attention it merits from the band. Some new live footage has recently been posted and two new official Cold Flame videos will be released in January promoting new original Cold Flame music. Check out ColdFlameUK - YouTube and feel free to subscribe to the channel as this page will develop over the next few months. If you have live footage of the band from recent shows and would like to send such footage through, please email info@cold-flame.co.uk

Cold Flame on Spotify
Another internet based website that already has a dedicated Cold Flame section featuring many of the original songs, albums and album images recorded by the band across the decades is Spotify. Though this has been in place for several years, it is not something that the band has advertised - until now. You can now find a link to Cold Flame on Spotify on the About page of the band website.

Cold Flame - the new studio album - 'A CIRCUS IN PARADISE'
Following the release in 2019 of the studio album 'Waiting for God' and the subsequent signing to Yorkshire based record label 'Starring Records' a few months later, Cold Flame released two extended anniversary download albums - 'The Acoustic Collection: 21 in 21 Edition' and 'Still Burning the Blues: Old Veins New Blood Edition'. Information on all three albums can be found in the Albums section of the band website. All three of these albums feature a mix of blues and folk rock music which is hardly surprising given the band's general music style. So it may come as a surprise to fans of the band to announce something radically different for 2023.

Cold Flame's latest studio album 'A Circus in Paradise', the band's 16th studio release, is a progressive rock concept album centred around specific environmental/political/ extremist themes enveloping mankind in the early 21st century. It marks a radical change from the blues-based material normally associated with Cold Flame and instead incorporates elements of rock, jazz, folk and eastern music linked tightly within a progressive rock framework. Many of the songs are extended pieces with various musical changes occurring throughout. There are nine original songs on the album all written by Pat Rowbottom with a further five songs, all Pat compositions, added to the extended download version of the album. The recording sessions held at Starring Studios with studio engineer Neil Scales on what became the new album actually began in 2020. Inevitably, owing to the difficulties experienced as a result of the pandemic crisis, these early sessions proved very difficult to timetable and progress was limited. With restrictions and health concerns still affecting plans, by early 2021 a decision was made to undertake further recording sessions in a different way with home recording files sent to the studio by some of the band members involved. Though once again this meant working at a slower pace, by early 2022 most of the recordings had been completed and it became easier for band members to complete further recording in the studio premises over the early summer months.

'A Circus in Paradise' features almost all the members of the Cold Flame family together with a couple of guest musicians featured on the title track. Mixing and mastering was completed in October 2022 as also was the artwork which was designed and painted by Midlands based artist Malcolm Thomas. Album duplication was completed the following month by Trades Duplication Limited based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. An extensive explanation of the new album will be posted in the Albums section of the band website later this month.

The album is being released worldwide via Starring Records on Wednesday 1st February 2023.
The extended download version will be released in March 2023.
To purchase the new album from February 1st onwards, visit the Shop section of the Cold Flame website.
